Something to Read, Eat & Wear
Three great recommendations from one perimenopausal woman to another.
Don’t get me wrong, I love spring. Like, love love love spring. As an outdoorsy person who needs green, growing things to feel fully human, winter in Ohio is a challenge.
But spring also comes with a chaotic, restless energy that I find difficult to adjust to year after year: the wild weather swings, the uptick in activities, the frantic feeling of wanting to fully appreciate the miracle of each new flowering thing.
In my effort to stay calm and grounded, here are three things I’ve been loving lately.
A calming “comfort” read: A few months ago, my sister recommended the book Theo of Golden, which I listened to on audio recently and loved. It was such a quiet, sweet, life-affirming story and perfect for days when my nervous system needed a calm distraction.
Alternate idea: After listening to Ann Patchett’s review of The Wind in the Willows, my husband downloaded a free version on Audible for us to listen to together. Here’s to hoping we also “feel better about everything” after reading this classic.
A salad I can’t stop thinking about: I made this crunchy thai-inspired cabbage salad from Pinch of Yum and have been thinking about it since - it was that good.
The recipe hit all the right notes:
✅ Tastes delicious
✅ Has protein, fiber & micronutrients
✅ Comes together quickly
✅ Super simple clean up
✅ Fabulous leftovers to eat from all week
What more could a girl want?
FYI - I used a combination of the toasted sesame dressing from the recipe and Trader Joe’s Thai Peanut dressing and the combo was delicious.
A dress that looks good, feels good and doesn’t break the bank: Perimenopausal sensory issues are real and the list of clothes I can tolerate wearing is getting smaller and smaller. Thankfully, dress season is almost here (!!!) which means I can wear something that barely touches my body - hallelujah. This one in particular is loose-yet-refined, comes in a million colors and is easily dressed up or down. I’m excited to wear it all summer.
I’m curious - what are you reading, eating and wearing right now that you love? Reply to this email or leave a comment to let me know.
XO, Rebecca
P.S. You told us you were busy.
