The Pep Talk We All Need Right Now
"I want to thank me, for believing in me."
Today marks one week before Thanksgiving, so I thought a quick pep-talk was due before signing off for a few weeks.
Why the break? Because for the next few weeks, every business that you’ve engaged with in any way will be clamoring for your attention.
And as an easily overstimulated perimenopausal woman, I find that when the world gets extra noisy I need to take a step back to preserve my sanity.
Feel free to join me in stepping away from the barrage and spending time doing anything that feels grounding: a outdoor walk, quiet yoga, snuggling up in bed with a good book, or even just quietly ticking off to do’s. I hope to emerge from the Black Friday/Cyber Monday/holiday shopping frenzy feeling calm and cozy rather than completely frazzled. And I hope that you do too!
But for now, I want to repost a Thanksgiving message I sent out in 2021 that I can’t stop thinking about this week. Maybe it’s because I know several extraordinarily resilient women going through some really tough stuff. And I want to remind them to take a few moments to acknowledge how well they’re navigating really difficult circumstances. And maybe you need that reminder too?
Without further ado … the pep talk I figure we could all use about right now:
I’m a firm believer in the power of gratitude and have had an (almost) daily gratitude practice for a few years now. But you know who I rarely take the time to feel grateful for?
Me.
Most of my gratitude is externally focused on the people in my life and the extraordinary world we live in. But a friend recently reminded me of Snoop Dogg’s infamous Hollywood Star acceptance speech where he thanked himself for believing in himself, for all his hard work, for never giving up, etc. and I AM SO HERE FOR IT!
Because the truth is, we accomplish amazing feats all the time and rarely stop to acknowledge the deep wells of strength, patience, knowledge, and skills we cultivate as we navigate our daily lives. And I think that’s a shame.
So take a moment this Thanksgiving to be thankful for yourself. To feel proud of the ways you show up for yourself and your people every day. For the incredible gift it is to have a body, through which you can experience so much goodness regardless of age, shape or ability. For the goals you’ve chased, the meals you’ve made, the books you’ve read, etc. And then let yourself marinate in the warmth of your gratitude for yourself, simply because it’s a lovely place to pause and hang out for a bit, and you’re worth it.
With love and gratitude for all of you (and myself, haha).
xo, Rebecca
